Basketball Camp is an incredible opportunity for young players to learn the fundamentals of the game, have fun, meet new friends, and develop their skill sets. In addition to being a fun and rewarding experience, coaching a camp can be a very effective way to hone your teaching skills, learn from other coaches, and become a more effective basketball “thinker”.
Training for basketball season requires more than just work on individual skills, such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense. It also requires a commitment to conditioning… improving strength, endurance and explosiveness will translate directly into better performance on the basketball court. This is best accomplished through targeted basketball training drills.
One of my favorite basketball ball handling drills is called the 60 second weak hand drill. The focus of this basketball ball handling drill is developing strength and control with the weak hand. Developing both hands will allow players to be a threat to drive left or right… making them that much harder to defend.
A successful team should only need 2 halfcourt plays for basketball. The first is a good motion offense (which I posted about a couple days ago). The second is a play to beat a zone.
