One of the basketball practice games we do every once in a while is a cool drill called King Of The Court. This basketball drill is very good at teaching kids to make effective, explosive moves, without dribbling too much.
These fun drills for youth basketball seem to help the younger players quickly grasp the concept of a basketball about to go out of bounds,i.e.- when and when NOT to swat it back into play.
One of the things I've found in almost 20 years of teaching and coaching youth basketball is that shooting the basketball often gets in the way of teaching inexperienced youth players the other fine points to the game.
