Of all the basketball drills and practice plans I use this is a great drill to get everyone involved in practice. We call it 5 on 5 on 5. Kids really go hard in this drill–great for pressure situations.
5 on 5 on 5
You start with a team under both baskets and a team at half court.
The team at half court gets the ball first. They will attack one basket.
The team on defense can choose the defense of their choice or the coach’s choice.
If they score they must take it out and go the other way against the press.
If the D steals it they go on offense.
If the team beats the press past half court they attack the other team who is waiting in their defensive set.
If the offense does not score and the defense gets rebound they must beat the press and get across half court to attack the team at the other end.
Play until whatever you want. We always play until 5, that way we can have 4 team–2 varsity and 2 JV. Loser does push ups.
