I sent out a request for my newsletter subscribers to send in their favorite [tag]drills[/tag] for [tag]basketball free throw shooting[/tag]. Check out this one below from Jay (very creative!).
From Jay…
I’m a first year high school girls’ [tag]coach[/tag]. In the first two weeks of [tag]practice[/tag] I’m trying to teach [tag]free throw[/tag] [tag]shooting[/tag] and the importance of it.
I started with a typical [tag]basketball[/tag] [tag]drill[/tag] at the end of practice. I would line up all of the girls on the end line.Have them come out one at a time and shoot a free throw. If they missed, the team ran a [tag]sprint[/tag] down and back. I have 16 girls. I hate to say it, but we often end up running 13 or 14 sprints.
Anyway, to make it a little more interesting, I have put all of their names in an envelope. I ask the team a question such as “who was the first president of the United States”? The one who answers correctly gets to choose the name from the envelope. The player chosen comes to the line to shoot. If she makes it, no running. If she misses, they run a “suicide”. That girl then picks the next name and the same thing happens. I only pick two at the end of practice to do this.
