This idea for [tag]basketball man to man defense[/tag] was sent in by Megan. Excellent [tag]basketball[/tag] [tag]drill[/tag] to add to your practices. Let me know how it goes for you.
From Megan…
Trapping Drill (we call it Knights of Trapalot):
Five [tag]offensive[/tag] players and five [tag]defensive[/tag] players are needed.
Four players go in four corners of a square…spread out.
The fifth goes in the middle.
The five defensive players match up with the offensive players. Resembles the number five on dice.
Now comes the [tag]trapping[/tag]. Whoever has the ball needs to be trapped. The [tag]trap[/tag] comes from the defensive player and another from one of the sides or the middle. There always has to be a trap of two people. Once the [tag]pass[/tag] is thrown, that person is then trapped. We teach them to move with the flight of the ball, and encourage the [tag]defense[/tag] to get a steal. We usually tell the offensive player to wait, so that they get the most out of the drill and it doesn’t become a game of keep away.
Whenever a trap is made we make sure that both the offensive and defensive players are using the proper skills of trapping and getting out of a trap.
