Special thanks to Allen and Scott for sending these in. If you’ve ever needed some fresh [tag]free basketball skills[/tag] and drills, you MUST try these out!
From Allen…
Here is a great [tag]basketball[/tag] [tag]conditioning[/tag] drill. I call it “Guts”.
You put your players in groups of 3. Put 1:30-2:30 on a clock.
The first person in line runs as hard as he can for as long as he can, then he slaps hands and the next person runs (walls). I tell my kids we can do two sessions of guts or run other timed sprints.
Here is why I like it so much. You always have kids that can coast and make a timed [tag]sprint[/tag], and you always have kids that who will bust their butt and not make the time. To me this puts pressure on the kids for self pride.
It really works and you would be amazed at how the kids will cheer for each other if you start cheering. I usually end practice with this [tag]drill[/tag].
From Scott…
Here’s a drill we use often. The kids like it and I think that it teaches a couple of good things.
Line 1 is at the top of the key, line 2 is under the basket out of bounds with the ball.
Line 2 rolls the ball out to line 1, waits one second and hustles out to defend the ball. The line 1 player picks up the ball and can take up to three [tag]dribbles[/tag] before she/he must shoot the ball.
Simple and fun.
