I like to save my fun basketball drills for the end of practice.  This drill is a 3pt shooting competition that we do once a week, and has become a favorite of the players as well.

3 Point Shooting Competition

Split into two teams–one at each end of the court.
There are 5 shooting spots going around the 3 point arc and you need to make 5 baskets at each.

For the first spot we line up on one of the low corners at the 3pt line.  Each line has 2 basketballs.  On “go” they start shooting.

The first team to make 5 yells out “5” and that signals the move for both teams to the second spot which is midway between the corner and the top of the key.

Again the first team to hit 5 yells out and they move to the top of the key (3rd spot) then to the midway point (4th spot) and finally to the low corner (5th spot).  The team that wins the most spots wins.

We usually do the best 2 out of 3 and the winning team gets a reward like not having to run at the end of practice or having the other team bring them ice cream or a sports drink to the next practice.
