Purpose
Even a player with great footwork needs a reminder every once in a while, otherwise they’ll get sloppy. That’s the goal of this drill –to work on footwork in a safe environment where there is no concern of an offensive player taking advantage.
How it Works
- Put a defender on each block, as they’ll be executing this drill at the same time.
- They’re going to work on three maneuvers specifically –denying the sideline entry, covering the back door, and opening up in the lane as they trail their man.
- They will then repeat the same three maneuvers on the other side of the court, ending up back in their original spot to finish the drill.
Coaching Tips
- Players should communicate who will be going high and who will be going low before the drill begins to avoid collisions.
