Here are some [tag]youth basketball drills free[/tag] that were sent to me by Fred and Matt. Try them out with your team tonight!
From Fred…
I coach under 10 year olds.
Here are two [tag]basketball[/tag] [tag]drills[/tag]:
1. 2 lines of players at the baseline, equal distance from the basket. At the whistle the 1st in each line race to the ball. The player that gains possesion is on [tag]offense[/tag] the other on [tag]defense[/tag].
1 point for a basket, 1 point for a defensive stop.
2. [tag]Shooting[/tag] [tag]drill[/tag]: have a player sit in a chair, non shooting arm behind their back, holding a basketball, using correct form; elbow in (ect.) have them stand and [tag]shoot[/tag] the ball, emphasize follow through, ending with the wrist looking like a goose’s neck. Hold the goose neck to reinforce it’s importance.
From Matt…
I just finished up [tag]coaching[/tag] a second grade team and to get them to concentrate on [tag]dribbling[/tag] without looking at the ball I did this.
I took an empty toilet paper roll and had them wedge it beneath the bottom of their chin to their chest. This forced them to keep their head up and I then had them dribble down the court and back to get used to dribbling without watching the ball.
