A champions philosophy?“  The foundation for any high school team is their youth program.  Work every day at improving fundamentals.  Spend at least half of practice time on basic fundamentals such as footwork, passing, shooting form, defensive stance and positioning, etc…

Coaching Philosophy:

Work every day at improving our fundamentals. We spend at least half of our practice time on basic fundamentals such as footwork, passing, shooting form, defensive stance and positioning, etc… We never waiver from our philosophy even during playoff time. On offense we believe in an up tempo style of play. Push the ball at all times and look to score before the defense gets set. Play unselfishly and develop as many scoring threats as possible.

Defensively we prefer constant pressure with a variety of attacks. We trap whenever possible no matter what defense we are in. Our gambling does allow some easy shots by the opponent, but we try to force enough turnovers to more than make up for that.

The foundation for any high school team is their youth program. Do the ground work yourself by showing up on Saturday mornings and getting to know your future players and inspiring them to set goals and work hard to achieve them. Surround yourself with coaches that feel the same way you do and give the young players a consistent message all the way up.

Practice Plan Drills

belgrade practice plan 1
Diagram 1: Simple but very effective. 5, 2 and 4 stack on weakside lane. 1 sets up above stack.
belgrade practice plan 2
Diagram 2: Players move as soon as official hands 3 the ball (don’t wait for ball slap). 5 and 4 set double screen for 2. 1 moves toward ball.
belgrade practice plan 3
Diagram 3.
3 throws skip pass to 2. It is very important that movement begins as soon as 3 gets ball from official. Element of surprise is what makes it work.
belgrade practice plan 4
Diagram 4:
Simple play to run at end of a half, game or shot clock. 4 and 5 screen in for 2 and 3. 1 creates off the dribble and drives to the basket. When the low post defenders stop the drive 1 dishes off. If the wings collapse, kick it out for 3 point shot to 2 or 3.
